State Nodal Department
The Department of Food Processing, Punjab is the ‘State Nodal Department’ to oversee implementation of PMFME Scheme. The department operates from the office premises of Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Limited, Plot No. 2-A, Madhya Marg, Sector 28-A, Chandigarh.
The department was formed on 16.3.2012 to implement the Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘National Mission on Food Processing (NMFP)’. Till March 2015, the department provided subsidy to 27 beneficiaries under various components of NMFP Scheme. The beneficiaries included pulse/f&v/milk/grain processing & cold chain units, college running degree/diploma courses in food processing and agencies running entrepreneurship development programme.
On 1.4.2015, the Government of India delinked the NMFP Scheme and stopped providing funds under it. Since then, the Department has been extending support to Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Govt. of India in assessing the proposals received from Punjab under various schemes of Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana.
